Chromium iron occupies a very important position in ferroalloys. Chromium iron is widely used as a reducing agent in steel smelting. Chromium iron can reduce oxides in ores such as vanadium, silicon, and manganese, thereby obtaining transition metal elements and improving the oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of alloys.

The ferroalloy blast furnace method is the earliest method used in large-scale industrial production of ferroalloys. The production of ferroalloys using the blast furnace method has a high yield and low cost. However, due to the fact that the oxide in the ore commonly used for producing ferroalloys is more stable than iron oxide and difficult to reduce, it requires more energy and a higher reduction temperature.
